India without Indians

While reading an e-paper something dubious struck me- India celebrated its 64th Republic Day on 26 January 2013. Was it true? Did India really celebrate its Republic Day on that specific date? I searched Google, opened Facebook and looked for some more e-papers. Surprisingly,  India celebrated its Republic Day on 26 January 2013 and even called dignitaries from other (neighboring) countries as state guest to witness the ridicule.

Still, I wasn’t convinced; this time I looked for better alternatives and browsed quality blogs. Now, I found the missing link that connected all the dots. India without Indians celebrated the republic day. Politicians, Bureaucrats, Businessmen and Government officials were all present while Indian Flag was unfurled except the Indians.

Three questions are bound to arise in your mind. Aren’t the puppets of democracy mention above Indians? Why aren’t the Indians celebrating their own Republic Day? What are Indians unto at by skipping Republic Day? The answer is simple and precise. Pumpkins don’t waste such beneficial moments and other present were duty bounded.

And, for Indians, it wasn’t a momentous day. For them it was yet another day to fight with all odds to win their daily bread. Indians were scattered in either hunt for living or busy fighting for justice. Few intellectuals among them were speaking for liberty of expression, belief and faith, and others demanding equality of status and opportunity.  In all they weren’t celebrating Republic Day. Indians were busy adapting themselves with increasing level of corruption, crimes and religious intolerance. They were happily engaged with either cricket or bollywood.

Sadly, they weren't celebrating their own Republic Day!

UP Future: Trouble Ahead

It has been quite a while since I wrote any political post. I can’t blame the present state of the country for not providing me with enough burning topics :P . Moreover, it was all my ignorance which kept me at bay from interfering in the political scenario of the country. But then it would be read as my negligence if I remain quiet about the recent furor caused by the political instability due to the upcoming state assembly elections in my native state i.e. Uttar Pradesh.

Little bit of knowledge about Uttar Pradesh is essential before plunging deep in the woods. Uttar Pradesh holds the key to the Prime Ministerial seat at Delhi with the most number of MP’s from a single state. Also it’s the country most populous state, amazingly leaving behind many countries. And, importantly, Uttar Pradesh is the second to largest state-economy in India, after the Indian state of Maharashtra. Yet it’s the perfect example of crumbling state machinery in neglect.

UP presently is governed by the Dalit centric political party BSP which sprang the last assembly election with full majority using its unique Sarva Jan Sahay slogan. Interestingly, after coming into power it wasted millions on building large monuments and parks instead of social and industrial development that subsequently can be seen as the last nail in the coffin of a dead poor state. It’s saddening to hear when someone after ruling the state for four long years proposes to divide it into four individual identities on the behest of proper development.

Don’t worry the other major political parties aren’t far from paralyzing the already weakened state. The grand old INC that turned itself into a lucrative dynastic career opportunity left no stone upturned in crippling the state. When the self proclaimed future PM of India begged the state people in a recent rally to bring his party into the power so that they can revive the derailed development projects I felt cheated. It’s making fool of the public when someone asks for five more years after ruling barbarically each and every nook and corner of the country for almost four decades. And adding to the humiliation is the leading figure who reportedly doesn’t know what his cabinet is unto.

I’m not pro-BJP. How can I vote for someone with mixed ideologies? They draft proposals with full vigor in their tenure and oppose the same while in opposition.

Does that happen to make me a communist? I never heard of them in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Are they really campaigning in the state? Do they even have a office here? Ah, then whom to vote… perplexing question. Isn’t it? It’s best to remain at home then to vote for someone undeserving and unqualified.

Why not boycott the whole election fiasco? May be that will force the government to take some bold decisions.

Note: I know there are other political parties like SP & RLD active in UP. But, did I have to waste your 2 minutes more in making you read about them? Also, views expressed are personal.

Will be back soon !

Corruption: Part 2

Enough has been said, talked and written about the Political Corruption. Even, the last post I wrote revolved much around the political corruption. Yet, it’s not the gravest of all types of corruption prevailing in our society.
I, myself cannot run away from the harsh reality of being corrupt. Sometime back a friend of mine wrote in his Facebook wall post that “hypocrites are the people who talk of corruption being a menace using a pirated operating system”.
Like everywhere in the world in our county too we have a two way path to get the things done. Either we follow the traditional path of getting the work done through the fixed rules and regulations which will take its due course or we look for an alternative i.e. bribe the official, who in any case won’t object, and get the thing done in matter of seconds. The greatest tragedy of our country is that almost everyone wishes to follow the second shortcut path.
Even I’m not Raja Harish Chandra and have altered the corrupt system several times to suit my own needs. I had been asked several times for a petty sum of anything in between Rs. 50 to Rs. 200 in return of a confirmed seat by corrupt Railway Ticket Checker. The thing doesn’t end here, its people like me who succumbs to pleasure of having a confirmed seat which subsequently adds to corruption.
I can cite many such examples from my own life where knowingly or unknowingly I surrendered to the lure of corruption. Yet quite at times it’s the barbaric system which forces an individual to fall down for the shortcuts.
Once when I went to a local police station for personal verification which was must to get an internship at a renowned PSU, I was blatantly asked for fifty rupees. I refused to pay the bribe and asked the official to carry on with the set rules. I was shocked and felt petty after knowing that verification without bribe would take around a week time.
A friend of mine who happens to be an IIML Alumni is waiting for his passport for more than 3 months now which would have according to set mandate shouldn’t have taken more than 15 days. His only fault was to say a clear NO to an insolent official asking him for some financial favors.
What’s the solution than?
Our whole system has been twisted and eaten up by such vultures. We need a revolution and for the same we need to bring in a fundamental change in our political system. The political parties running our country irrespective of whether right, left or secular are one and all corrupt. Such widespread loot and mayhem must be stopped. And, the only answer to all this is VOTING. We should effectively use the power of voting vested in our hands by our constitution makers and should vote for a deserving candidate irrespective of his caste, creed and religion.

I'm sorry Bhaiya.. I took an abstract from your life... !

Communal Politics: Politics of Hatred

Political parties can be broadly divided into three forms: the right, the left and the middle. The right parties, as per the critics, follow the path of majority religion appeasement.  Whereas, the left parties follow the path of communalism. The middle parties don’t go either way. India, the world largest democracy, has all the three forms of political parties.

Communal politics is the politics based on the religious ground for attaining short-term selfish goals. India has been tormented from the very idea of communal politics since time immortal. It created havoc in the form of partition. India was partitioned on religious lines because of the wide spread resentment created in the minds of Muslims by the Muslim League. But, the hysteria created by communal politics vanishes in no time. The Muslim League disappeared from the political arena soon; a Party which created a country did not survive longer than a decade.

In the 80’s a new wave of political statistics came in the forefront. BJP started calling itself messiah of Hindus. Also, the circumstances happened to help the BJP. Hindus were quite annoyed by the minority appeasement policies of the ruling Congress. BJP sensed the political scenario and started luring the majority Hindu community with its Ram Mandir campaign. The result was the demolition of Babri Masjid followed by the countrywide communal riots, killing thousands of innocent people.

So, does the BJP only to blame for the communal politics?

No, BJP alone cannot be blamed for the rise of communal politics in India. The short-sighted minority appeasement policy of Congress vexed the majority community. Adding fuel to it was the introduction and implementation of Mandal Commission. Also, many regional parties like Akali Dal, Shiv Sena, Samajwadi Party and others were created on religious lines. Their main political motto till date is to create hysteria and follow a path of animosity.

Does the country gained anything from the communal politics?

No, instead of gaining the country suffered economically and emotionally due to the increased hatred among its citizens causing many riots in the name of religion and community. Many innocent countrymen lost there life.
It’s true that the communal parties may succeed in creating a mass hysteria but it soon gets discredited and diluted. No amount of efforts can revive them. Their followers are deserting them and once their vote bank is getting lost in the mist. Politics in the form of hate cannot sustain for long.
